SDG 13
Perhaps one of, if not the, most important goals on this list. Now it is more urgent than ever to halt climate change and save our planet, with 2019 being the second warmest year on record and the 2010's being the warmest decade ever recorded. 2020 also saw some of the worst forest fires ever seen, not to mention the North American heatwave of summer 2021. Scientists warn of the urgency of the situation and call for immediate change, something this goal takes very seriously.
There are three targets:
- Strengthen resilience and adaptive capacity to climate-related hazards and natural disasters in all countries
- Integrate climate change measures into national policies, strategies and planning
- Improve education, awareness-raising and human and institutional capacity on climate change mitigation, adaptation, impact reduction and early warning
What does this mean and what can we do?
This list may seem extremely short for such a broad and serious issue, but that is likely because most of the active countermeasures are already mentioned in previous goals, as well as covered by the Paris Agreement. These targets focus almost exclusively on preparing for the worst as well as educating and protecting the populace.
