Understand the difference to better angle your fundraising activities
When talking about CSR many will confuse a corporate CSR strategy with philanthropy.
Philanthropic responsibility refers to a person’s aim to actively make the world and society a better place. A philanthropist may be the owner of a company, and use the company as a platform for their personal engagement. However, the engagement does not necessarily have to align with the company’s core business. In many cases they will create their own charitable trust or foundation and will therefore be less interested in investing in an independent NGO.
In approaching funders it can therefore be of value to determine if the engagement origins from a personal or business stand point.
