Gefle IF Soccer and UN Women Sweden in collaboration to strengthen gender equality
Gefle IF Soccer and UN Women Sweden have signed a cooperation agreement to actively and jointly work with gender equality issues through the UN's global initiative HeForShe. - We hope and believe that our joint work to change attitudes, behaviors and norms contributes to a more equal society free from violence and discrimination, says Christina Knight at UN Women Sweden.
HeForShe started in 2014 to engage more men and boys in the work with gender equality; against violence, discrimination and injustice affecting women and girls. The initiative is based on the premise that boys' and men's commitment is directly decisive for gender equality to be achieved and that gender equality benefits everyone - socially, politically and economically - regardless of gender identity. Around the world, companies, government representatives, civil society, universities, schools and sports associations work with HeForShe as a platform to strengthen and develop gender equality in their area.
- We at UN Women Sweden are very happy that Gefle IF Soccer has chosen to become HeForShe. It is incredibly important that more players in sports take the step and actively work with gender equality issues. We hope and believe that our joint work to change attitudes, behaviors and norms contributes to a more equal society free from violence and discrimination, says Christina Knight at UN Women Sweden.
- Gefle IF Football and UN Women Sweden have the same basic values regarding the equal value of all people. Sport is an important and relevant place for work with, and discussions about, gender equality and norms - how do we behave towards each other, on the field, in the locker rooms and on training sessions? We are convinced that our joint work to change attitudes, behaviors and norms contributes to a more equal society free from violence and discrimination. This is completely in line with our CSR work "A better Gävle" where we aim to increase equality in society, says Daniel Kraft club manager Gefle IF Soccer.
